Crystal Group Announces 2019 Innovation Scholarship Winners

Hiawatha, Iowa, April 30, 2019 – Crystal Group, Inc., a leading designer/manufacturer of rugged computer and electronic hardware, is honored to announce the 2019 recipients of the Crystal Group Innovation Scholarship; Alec Jobbins, a junior at the University of California – Berkeley, and Chris Lopez, a sophomore at Iowa State University.

Alec Jobbins is currently a junior at the University of California – Berkeley and is majoring in mechanical engineering. Alec is an active member of the Berkeley Formula SAE Competition Team, designing and manufacturing formula race cars. He has also conducted research for an INSTAR Controls Lab at U.C. Berkeley. Alec will be interning at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory this summer and plans to graduate in May 2020.

Chris Lopez is a sophomore at Iowa State University studying computer engineering with a minor in music technology. This summer Chris will be working as a software engineering intern with Garmin. He plans to graduate in four years with just nine credits shy of a master’s degree.

To qualify for the Innovation Scholarship, applicants must be full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business, Engineering, or related majors. Scholarship winners receive a one-time scholarship of $1,000 payable directly to the institution in which they are enrolled. Winners were selected based on essays with additional consideration given to academic accomplishments, leadership and participation in both school and community activities.
