Hiawatha, Iowa, USA – Crystal Group Inc., a trusted manufacturer of rugged commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) custom-developed computers, displays, switches, and storage devices, announced today the successful testing of the company’s RS112 Rugged 1U Server as part of Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System for the U.S. Army.
Crystal Group’s rugged servers used in the recent demonstration at the Redstone Arsenal provide onsite network services as part of a command and control data relay network in a mobile warfare environment. Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Battle Command System (IBCS) is designed to deliver a common battle command system for all Army air defense components to help save lives and reduce system lifecycle costs.
“The performance of the RS112 Rugged 1U Server in field demonstrations further validates the server’s dependability and availability characteristics,” said Crystal Group’s Missy Andrews, Program Manager. “Northrop Grumman selected Crystal Group rugged servers for this program after previously seeing how well they met networking requirements for reliability, scalability and longevity when operating in harsh or combat environments.”

Additional tests for the IBCS are scheduled for late 2014 at the White Sands Missile Range. The Northrop Grumman program is scheduled to go into low rate initial production in 2016 with fielding to begin in 2017.
