Crystal Group Inc. Announces Sandy Bridge™ Processors to be used in their RS line

Hiawatha, IA — Crystal Group Inc., an employee owned small business, designer and manufacturer of rugged, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-designed computers, displays, networking devices, embedded systems, and storage devices, is pleased to announce that effective June 1, 2012, Intel® Sandy Bridge™ processors are available in Crystal Group’s Rugged Server (RS) line.

Sandy Bridge offers a highly integrated architecture that promises to boost performance, reduce power need, and lower recurring systems costs. Sandy Bridge microarchitecture provides designers a modular and expandable framework that will reduce the system component count and power dissipation while simplifying future updates.

This new architecture combines a variable number of CPU cores; an integrated graphics processor, Last Level Cache (LLC), and a system agent/memory controller that all communicate using a scalable on-die ring interconnect system. The motherboard system provides dual socket R LGA2011 E5-2600 CPUs with the Intel® C602 chipset, up to eight (8) DIMM slots for 256GB 1600MHz DDR3 ECC RAM, with five (5) PCIe slots and one PCI. The system is capable of ten (10) SATA ports and two (2) GBLAN.

Jim Shaw, Executive VP of Engineering at Crystal Group, comments: “The Sandy Bridge architecture from Intel provides Crystal Group’s customers with the leading edge performance in the most rugged package in the industry. The Sandy Bridge motherboard uses the dual LGA 2011 tri-gate 3D transistor technology from Intel enabling many new features like dual QPI links, eight cores, more PCI lanes, and faster memory. The thermal, vibration, and shock performance levels of this platform will continue to set the bar for the industry using Crystal’s extensive ruggedization techniques. We are leading the industry in rolling out both the ATX and the eATX versions of the board to enhance our line of ultra-rugged, light weight, high performance, and high reliability servers to the military and industrial segments.”
